Ian Baird conducts research regarding various aspects of “Southeast Asian American Studies.” His work is transnational, and he particularly works on issues of importance to Lao, Hmong, Thai and Cambodian Americans and Canadians, both in North America and in Southeast Asia. He also actively works with the Hmong Studies Consortium and the Center for Southeast Asian Studies at UW-Madison. He also recently started conducting research regarding the history of Japanese Canadian relations with White people and First Nations people on Vancouver Island, British Columbia, before, during and after World War II.
