The Chinese Question: Gold Rushes and Global Politics

Mae Ngai, Lung Family Professor of Asian American Studies and Professor of History at Columbia University, will discuss the role of Chinese miners in the 19th-century gold rushes of California, Australia, and South Africa and the rise of anti-Chinese politics in the West.

The lecture will be held at 4 pm in H.F. Deluca Forum of the Wisconsin Institute of Discovery with a reception to follow.

This event is presented by the Asian American Studies Program and The Anonymous Fund.
