Madison’s Asian American Media Spotlight

Join us for a weekend of film screenings for Madison’s Asian American Media Spotlight. We will be showing three in-person films and one film via virtual screening.

Cane Fire (in-person, Vilas Hall 4070) “Cane Fire​ examines the past and present of the Hawaiian island of Kauaʻi, interweaving four generations of family history, numerous Hollywood productions, and troves of found footage to create a kaleidoscopic portrait of the economic and cultural forces that have cast indigenous and working-class residents as “extras” in their own story.”

Chan is Missing (In-person, Vilas Hall 4070) “Two cabbies search San Francisco’s Chinatown for a mysterious character who has disappeared with their $4,000. Their quest leads them on a humorous, if mundane, journey which illuminates the many problems experienced by Chinese-Americans trying to assimilate into contemporary American society.”

Fighting for Family (in-person, Psychology 103, Brogden Psychology Building) “FIGHTING FOR FAMILY captures the love story between a young family who from the indigenous tribes of Vietnam who faces countless challenges, yet continues to be hopeful, resilient, and joyful.”

Paper Tiger (virtual screening) “An immigrant mother fears her mentally-ill teenaged son is turning into a school-shooter.”
