This March at the UW-Madison Academic & Career Success Conference, AAS staff, faculty, students and collaborating partners presented on coalitions and collaborations. Represented by Professor Lisa Ho, Program Administrator Jessica Montez, and Certificate Student Britney Tang, the team presented on our programming impacts and strategies for Student Success with Ethic Studies and Campus Centers.
Accompanying AAS is our wonderful esteemed colleagues at the Chicano & Latinx Studies (ChicLAS) Program and the Multicultural Student Center (see pics below!). Together, we presented on how Ethnic Studies programming and multicultural community spaces are crucial in facilitating student success on campus and fostering community across backgrounds. The team also facilitated interactive discussions with the attendees from numerous departments across campus on how to foster collaboration and community that aligns with each programs’ mission focus- from Biology to Computer Science, to Adult Students Support offices.. etc. We also got to hear from Dr. Ho and Jessica on the History of why programs like Asian American Studies was created at UW as a response to racial tensions at the time. Congratulations, team!
