Local Bookstore Hosts AASP Faculty’s Discussion of Newly Published Books

Drs. Rachel Kuo and Kong Pheng Pha featuring their respective books

During February, two of our very own faculty Professor Kong Pheng Pha and  Professor Rachel Kuo held a joint talk to discuss their respective books. In a thoughtful, lively discussion between the two, Prof. Kuo talked about her book, Movement Media, on how social movements use digital spaces to foster solidarity across cultural and racial backgrounds. Meanwhile, Prof. Pha talked about his book, Queering the Hmong Diaspora, on the role geopolitical narratives plan in Hmong sexual and gender politics. The event was attended by students, other faculty members, and community members on a cozy night on the West side. We got to hear directly from the author on how the two books compliment eachother accross disciplinary fields, and had a discussion on research methods, and the role of the academic in public life. Thank you for coming to support and learn from our faculty, and congratulations, Dr. Kuo and Dr. Pha!

The Mystery to Me Bookstore on the website hosts a book talk event with the two professors in February.
